For this tutorial you will need:


Corel Paint Shop Pro X4 Ultimate. Download a trial version here
Supplies here


- Extract cmv_2161.PspGradient file to My Documents/Corel PaintShop Pro/14.0/Gradients folder.
- Extract 13-cmv.bmp file to My Documents/Corel PaintShop Pro/14.0/Textures folder.
- Extract all files to a folder of your choice.


This tutorial assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP and its tools. It was written using Corel Paint Shop Pro X4 Ultimate, but may be done with previous versions.


Note: When you open the cm014_v000.pspimage file you will see a blank canvas. It's not empty: it contains all the selections needed, saved to alpha channels.


Remember to save often.

1. Open up cm014_v000.pspimage. Window - Duplicate (Shift + D). Close the original. In the Layers Palette, click on Raster 2. Layers - Delete.

2. In the Materials palette, set the Foreground to Gradient. On the drop-list, choose cmv_2161, Style: Linear - Angle: 0 - Repeats: 0 - Invert: Unchecked and Background color to: #3d295c. Using the Flood Fill Tool (F), fill "Raster 1" with the gradient (left mouse button). Effects - Texture Effects - Texture, with these settings: Texture: 13-cmv.

Adjust - Sharpness - Sharpen More.

3. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with the gradient (left mouse button). Adjust - Add/Remove Noise - Add Noise, Gaussian: Checked - Noise: 50% - Monochrome: Checked. Adjust - Sharpness - Sharpen More. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #1 - Load. Edit - Clear (Supr.). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow, Vertical: 1 - Horizontal: -1 - Opacity: 50 - Blur: 1 - Color: #201632.

4. Layers - New Raster Layer. Set the Blend mode to: Multiply - Opacity to: 50. Fill with the Background color (right mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #2 - Load. Edit - Clear (Supr.). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

5. In the Materials palette, change Invert of the Gradient to Checked. Layers - New Raster Layer. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #3 - Load. Fill with the gradient (left mouse button). Effects - Texture Effects - Texture, same setting as before. Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel, with these settings:

6. Open up cm014v-1.pspimage. Edit - Copy (Ctrl. + C). On your working image: Layers - New Raster Layer. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #4 - Load. Edit - Paste Into Selection (Ctrl. + Shift + L). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

7. In the Materials palette, change the Background color to: #b2b1db. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with the Background color (right mouse button). Effects - Texture Effects - Texture, same settings as step 2. Adjust - Sharpness - Sharpen More. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #5 - Load. Edit - Clear (Supr.). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Effects - 3D Effects - Inner Bevel, same settings as before. Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow, Vertical and Horizontal: 0 - Opacity: 100 - Blur: 4 - Color: #201632.

8. In the Materials palette, set Foreground color to: #115200 and your Background color to: #ccdc32. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with the Foreground color (left mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #6 - Load. Edit - Clear (Supr.). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow, Vertical: -12 - Horizontal: 0 - Opacity: 50 - Blur: 15 - Color: #201632.

9. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with the Background color (right mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #7 - Load. Edit - Clear (Supr.). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Layers - Merge - Merge Down. Adjust - Sharpness - Unsharp Mask, Radius: 1,50 - Strength: 100 - Clipping: 10 - Luminance only: Checked.

10. Open up cm014v-2.pspimage. Edit - Copy (Ctrl. + C). On your working image: Edit - Paste as New Layer (Ctrl. + L). Layers - Merge - Merge Visible.
