For this tutorial you will need:


Corel Paint Shop Pro X4 Ultimate. Download a trial version here
Supplies here


- Extract cmv_2154.PspGradient file to My Documents/Corel PaintShop Pro/14.0/Gradients folder.
- Extract 10-cmv.bmp file to My Documents/Corel PaintShop Pro/14.0/Textures folder.
- Extract all files to a folder of your choice.


This tutorial assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP and its tools. It was written using Corel Paint Shop Pro X4 Ultimate, but may be done with previous versions.


Note: When you open the cm014_q000.pspimage file you will see a blank canvas. It's not empty: it contains all the selections needed, saved to alpha channels.


Remember to save often.

1. Open up cm014_q000.pspimage. Window - Duplicate (Shift + D). Close the original. In the Layers Palette, click on Raster 2. Layers - Delete.

2. In the Materials palette, set the Foreground to Gradient. On the drop-list, choose cmv_2154, Style: Linear - Angle: 45 - Repeats: 0 - Invert: Unchecked. Using the Flood Fill Tool (F), fill "Raster 1" with the gradient (left mouse button). Effects - Texture Effects - Texture, with these settings: Texture: 10-cmv.



3. In the Materials palette, set the Foreground color to: #fffae8 and Background color to: #693d0f. Layers - New Raster Layer. Set the Blend mode to: Soft Light. Fill with the Foreground color (left mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #1 - Load. Edit - Clear (Supr.). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

4. Open up cm014q-1.pspimage. Edit - Copy (Ctrl. + C). On your working image: Layers - New Raster Layer. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #2 - Load. Edit - Paste Into Selection (Ctrl. + Shift + L). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

5. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with the Background color (right mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #3 - Load. Edit - Clear (Supr.). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

6. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with the Foreground color (left mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #4 - Load. Edit - Clear (Supr.). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

7. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with the Background color (right mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #5 - Load. Edit - Clear (Supr.). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

8. Layers - New Raster Layer. Set the Blend mode to: Burn - Opacity to: 56. Fill with the Background color (right mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #6 - Load. Edit - Clear (Supr.). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

9. In the Materials palette, set the Foreground color to: #fff2cb. Layers - New Raster Layer. Set the Blend mode to: Screen. Fill with the Foreground color (left mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #7 - Load. Edit - Clear (Supr.). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

10. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with the Background color (right mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #8 - Load. Edit - Clear (Supr.). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

11. In the Materials palette, set the Foreground color to: #a96513. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with the Foreground color (left mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #9 - Load. Edit - Clear (Supr.). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow, Vertical: 0 - Horizontal: 5 - Opacity: 60 - Blur: 10 - Color: #693d0f.

12. Open up cm014q-2.pspimage. Edit - Copy (Ctrl. + C). On your working image: Edit - Paste as New Layer (Ctrl. + L). Layers - Merge - Merge Visible.
