For this tutorial you will need:


Corel Paint Shop Pro X4 Ultimate. Download a trial version here
Supplies here



- Extract cmv_2148.PspGradient file to My Documents/Corel PaintShop Pro/14.0/Gradients folder.
- Extract all files to a folder of your choice.


This tutorial assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP and its tools. It was written using Corel Paint Shop Pro X4 Ultimate, but may be done with previous versions.


Note: When you open the cm014_l000.pspimage file you will see a blank canvas. It's not empty: it contains all the selections needed, saved to alpha channels.


Remember to save often.

Drop script by Dynamic Drive




1. Open up cm014_l000.pspimage. Window - Duplicate (Shift + D). Close the original. In the Layers Palette, click on Raster 2. Layers - Delete.

2. Set Foreground color to: #ca9551 and your Background color to: #2f0b00. Using the Flood Fill Tool, fill "Raster 1" with Foreground color (left mouse button).

3. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with Background color (right mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #1 - Load. Edit - Clear (Supr.). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Layers - Merge - Merge Down. Adjust - Sharpness - Unsharp Mask, Radius: 1,00 - Strength: 75 - Clipping: 0 - Luminance only: Checked.

4. In the Materials Palette, change your Foreground to Gradient. On the drop-list, choose cmv_2148, Style: Linear - Angle: 90 - Repeats: 0 - Invert: Unchecked. Layers - New Raster Layer. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #2 - Load. Fill with the foreground color (left mouse button). Effects - Reflection Effects - Rotating Mirror, with these settings: Mirror Placement, Horizontal offset (%): -85 - Vertical offset (%): 46 - Rotation angle: 205 - Edge mode: Wrap Checked.

Effects - Texture Effects - Fine Leather, with these settings: Color: #ffffff - Angle: 30 - Blur: 25 - Transparency: 255 - Number of furrows: 40 - Length of furrows: 10. Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

5. In the Materials Palette, change your Foreground color to: #ca9551. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with Foreground color (left mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #3 - Load. Edit - Clear (Supr.). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow, Vertical and Horizontal: 0 - Opacity: 30 - Blur: 5 - Color: #2f0b00.

6. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with Background color (right mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #4 - Load. Edit - Clear (Supr.). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Layers - Merge - Merge Down. Adjust - Sharpness - Sharpen.

7. Open up cm014l-1.pspimage. Edit - Copy (Ctrl. + C). On your working image: Layers - New Raster Layer. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #5 - Load. Edit - Paste Into Selection (Ctrl. + Shift + L). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

8. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with Background color (right mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #6 - Load. Edit - Clear (Supr.). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

9. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with Background color (right mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #7 - Load. Edit - Clear (Supr.). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

10. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with Foreground color (left mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #8 - Load. Edit - Clear (Supr.). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Layers - Duplicate. In the Layers Palette, set the Blend mode to Screen and Opacity to 65.

11. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with Background color (right mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #9 - Load. Edit - Clear (Supr.). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

12. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with Background color (right mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #10 - Load. Edit - Clear (Supr.). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

13. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with Foreground color (left mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #11 - Load. Edit - Clear (Supr.). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Layers - Duplicate. In the Layers Palette, set the Blend mode to Screen.

14. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with Background color (right mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #12 - Load. Edit - Clear (Supr.). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

15. Layers - New Raster Layer. Set the Blend mode to: Soft Light. Fill with Background color (right mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #13 - Load. Edit - Clear (Supr.). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

16. In the Materials Palette, change your Foreground color to: #e7bf77. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with Foreground color (left mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #14 - Load. Edit - Clear (Supr.). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

17. Open up cm014l-2.pspimage. Edit - Copy (Ctrl. + C). On your working image: Edit - Paste as New Layer (Ctrl. + L).

18. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with Foreground color (left mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #15 - Load. Edit - Clear (Supr.). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow, Vertical: 2 - Horizontal: 0 - Opacity: 50 - Blur: 5,00 - Color: #2f0b00. Adjust - Sharpness - Unsharp Mask, same settings as before. Layers - Merge - Merge Visible.
