For this tutorial you will need:


Corel Paint Shop Pro X4 Ultimate. Download a trial version here
Supplies here


- Extract the cmv_2136.PspGradient file to My Documents/Corel PaintShop Pro/14.0/Gradients folder.
- Extract all files to a folder of your choice.


This tutorial assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP and its tools. It was written using Corel Paint Shop Pro X4 Ultimate, but may be done with previous versions.


Note: When you open the cm013_x000.pspimage file you will see a blank canvas. It's not empty: it contains all the selections needed, saved to alpha channels.


Remember to save often.

1. Open up cm013_x000.pspimage. Window - Duplicate (Shift + D). Close the original. In the Layers Palette, click on Raster 2. Layers - Delete.

2. Set Foreground to Gradient. On the drop-list, choose cmv_2136, Style: Linear - Angle: 0 - Repeats: 0 - Invert: Unchecked and your Background color to: #97b1b6. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #1 - Load. Using the Flood Fill Tool (F), fill with the Background color (right mouse button). Selections - Invert (Ctrl. + Shift + I). Fill with the foreground gradient (left mouse button). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

3. Change Style of the Gradient to: Rectangular - Center Point, Horizontal: 50 - Vertical: 75. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with the foreground gradient (left mouse button). Adjust - Blur - Gaussian Blur, Radius: 15. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #2 - Load. Edit - Clear (Delete Key). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

4. Change Center Point of the Gradient, Vertical to: 25. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with the foreground gradient (left mouse button). Adjust - Blur - Gaussian Blur, Radius, same settings as before. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #3 - Load. Edit - Clear (Delete Key). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

5. Layers - New Raster Layer. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #4 - Load. Fill with the Background color (right mouse button). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

6. Change Angle of the Gradient to: 90 - Style: Linear - Repeats: 5. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with the foreground gradient (left mouse button). Adjust - Blur - Gaussian Blur, same settings as before. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #5 - Load. Edit - Clear (Delete Key). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Adjust - Sharpness - Sharpen.

7. In the Materials Palette, change your Foreground color to: #ffffff. Layers - New Raster Layer. Set the Opacity: 30. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #6 - Load. Fill with the foreground color (left mouse button). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

8. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with the Background color (right mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #7 - Load. Edit - Clear (Delete Key). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

9. On the same layer: Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #8 - Load. Adjust - Brightness and Contrast - Brightness/Contrast (Shift + B): Brightness: -20 - Contrast: 5. Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Adjust - Sharpness - Sharpen More.

10. Layers - New Raster Layer. Set the Opacity: 30. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #9 - Load. Fill with the foreground color (left mouse button). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow, Vertical: -8 - Horizontal: 0 - Opacity: 50 - Blur: 10 - Color: #1b3843.

11. Layers - New Raster Layer. Set the Opacity: 30. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #10 - Load. Fill with the foreground color (left mouse button). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

12. Layers - New Raster Layer. Set the Opacity: 88. Fill with the Background color (right mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #11 - Load. Edit - Clear (Delete Key). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Adjust - Sharpness - Sharpen.

13. Open up cm013x-1.pspimage. Edit - Copy (Ctrl. + C). On your working image: Layers - New Raster Layer. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #12 - Load. Edit - Paste Into Selection (Ctrl. + Shift + L). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

14. Layers - New Raster Layer. Set the Opacity: 72. Fill with the foreground color (left mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #13 - Load. Edit - Clear (Delete Key). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Adjust - Sharpness - Sharpen.

15. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with the foreground color (left mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #14 - Load. Edit - Clear (Delete Key). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

16. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with the foreground color (left mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #15 - Load. Edit - Clear (Delete Key). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow, only change, Vertical to: 9.

17. Open up cm013x-2.pspimage. Edit - Copy (Ctrl. + C). On your working image: Edit - Paste as New Layer (Ctrl. + L). Layers - Merge - Merge Visible.
