For this tutorial you will need:


Corel PaintShop Pro X4 Ultimate. Download a trial version here
Supplies here


- Extract the cmv_cmv_2133.PspGradient file to My Documents/Corel PaintShop Pro/14.0/Gradients folder.
- Extract the 28-cmv.bmp file to My Documents/Corel PaintShop Pro/14.0/Textures folder.
- Extract all files to a folder of your choice.


This tutorial assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP and its tools. It was written using Corel PaintShop Pro X4 Ultimate, but may be done with previous versions.


Note: When you open the cm013_v000.pspimage file you will see a blank canvas. It's not empty: it contains all the selections needed, saved to alpha channels.


Remember to save often.

1. Open up cm013_v000.pspimage. Window - Duplicate (Shift + D). Close the original. In the Layers Palette, click on Raster 2. Layers - Delete.

2. Set Foreground to Gradient. On the drop-list, choose cmv_2133, Style: Linear - Angle: 45 - Repeats: 0 - Invert: Unchecked and your Background color to: #120606. Using the Flood Fill Tool (F), fill "Raster 1" with the Background color (right mouse button).

3. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with the foreground gradient (left mouse button). Adjust - Blur - Gaussian Blur, Radius: 20,00. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #1 - Load. Edit - Clear (Delete Key). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Adjust - Brightness and Contrast - Brightness/Contrast (Shift + B): Brightness: 110 - Contrast: -25.

4. Layers - New Raster Layer. Set the Blend mode to: Soft Screen. Fill with the foreground gradient (left mouse button). Adjust - Blur - Gaussian Blur, same settings as before. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #2 - Load. Edit - Clear (Delete Key). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Layers - Merge - Merge Visible. Adjust - Sharpness - Unsharp Mask, Radius: 10 - Strength: 30 - Clipping: 80 - Luminance only: Unchecked.

5. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with Background color (right mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #3 - Load. Edit - Clear (Delete Key). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

6. In the Layers Palette, highlight your "Merged Layers". Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #4 - Load. Selections - Promote Selection to Layer (Ctrl. + Shift + P). Layers - Arrange - Bring to Top. Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

7. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with Background color (right mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #5 - Load. Edit - Clear (Delete Key). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

8. In the Materials Palette, change Invert of the Gradient to: Checked. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with the foreground gradient (left mouse button). Effects - Texture Effects - Texture, with these settings: Texture: 28-cmv.



Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #6 - Load. Edit - Clear (Delete Key). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

9. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with Background color (right mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #7 - Load. Edit - Clear (Delete Key). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

10. In the Materials Palette, change your Background color to: #b89359. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with Background color (right mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #8 - Load. Edit - Clear (Delete Key). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

11. In the Materials Palette, change your Background color to: #e6d6ba. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with Background color (right mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #9 - Load. Edit - Clear (Delete Key). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Adjust - Sharpness - Sharpen.

12. Open up cm013v-1.pspimage. Edit - Copy (Ctrl. + C). On your working image: Layers - New Raster Layer. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #10 - Load. Edit - Paste Into Selection (Ctrl. + Shift + L). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

13. In the Materials Palette, change your Background color to: #120606. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with Background color (right mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #11 - Load. Edit - Clear (Delete Key). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

14. In the Materials Palette, change your Background color to: #b89359. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with Background color (right mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #12 - Load. Edit - Clear (Delete Key). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

15. In the Materials Palette, change your Background color to: #e6d6ba. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with Background color (right mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #13 - Load. Edit - Clear (Delete Key). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Adjust - Sharpness - Sharpen.

16. Open up cm013v-2.pspimage. Edit - Copy (Ctrl. + C). On your working image: Edit - Paste as New Layer (Ctrl. + L). Layers - Merge - Merge Visible.
