For this tutorial you will need:


Corel Paint Shop Pro X2. Download a trial version here
Supplies here


- Extract cvm_1031.PspGradient to My Documents\My PSP Files\Gradients folder.
- Extract all files to a folder of your choice.


This tutorial assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP and its tools. It was written using Corel Paint Shop Pro X2, but may be done with previous versions.


Note: When you open the cm012_w000.pspimage file you will see a blank canvas. It's not empty: it contains all the selections needed, saved to alpha channels.


Remember to save often.

1. Open up cm012_w000.pspimage. Window - Duplicate (Shift + D). Close the original. In the Layers Palette, click on Raster 2. Layers - Delete.

2. In the Materials Palette, set Foreground Color to: #ea3c39 and Background Color to: #000000. Using the Flood Fill Tool, fill "Raster 1" with the background color (right mouse button).

3. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with the foreground (left mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #1 - Load. Edit - Clear (Delete Key). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

4. Change Background Color to: #5e0304. Layers - New Raster Layer. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #2 - Load. Fill with the background color (right mouse button). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow, Vertical -13 - Horizontal: 0 - Opacity: 80 - Blur: 15 - Color: #5e0304.

5. Change your Background to Gradient. On the drop-list, choose cvm_1031, Style: Linear - Angle: 45 - Repeats: 0 - Invert: Unchecked. Layers - New Raster Layer. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #3 - Load. Flood fill with the gradient (right mouse button). Adjust - Blur - Gaussian Blur, Radius: 20,00. Selections - Modify - Contract: Number of pixels: 1. Selections - Invert (Ctrl. + Shift + I). Adjust - Brightness and Contrast - Brightness/Contrast (Shift + B): Brightness: -50 - Contrast: 0. Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

6. Layers - New Raster Layer. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #4 - Load. Flood fill with the gradient (right mouse button). Adjust - Blur - Gaussian Blur, Radius: 20,00. Selections - Modify - Contract: Number of pixels: 1. Selections - Invert (Ctrl. + Shift + I). Adjust - Brightness and Contrast - Brightness/Contrast (Shift + B), same settings as before. Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Layers - Merge - Merge Down.

7. Layers - New Raster Layer. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #5 - Load. Flood fill with the gradient (right mouse button). Adjust - Blur - Gaussian Blur, Radius: 20,00. Selections - Modify - Contract: Number of pixels: 1. Selections - Invert (Ctrl. + Shift + I). Adjust - Brightness and Contrast - Brightness/Contrast (Shift + B), same settings as before. Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Layers - Merge - Merge Down.

8. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with the foreground (left mouse button). Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #6 - Load. Edit - Clear (Delete Key). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow, Vertical 1 - Horizontal: -1 - Opacity: 80 - Blur: 1 - Color: #5e0304. Layers - Merge - Merge Down. Adjust - Sharpness - Unsharp Mask, with these settings: Radius: 1,00 - Strength: 75 - Clipping: 0 - Luminance only: checked.

9. Open up cm012w-1.pspimage. Edit - Copy (Ctrl. + C). On your working image: Layers - New Raster Layer. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #7 - Load. Edit - Paste Into Selection (Ctrl. Shift + L). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Layers - Merge - Merge Down.

10. On the same layer: Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #8 - Load. Edit - Copy (Ctrl. + C). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

11. Layers - New Raster Layer. Set the Opacity to: 25. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #9 - Load. Edit - Paste Into Selection (Ctrl. Shift + L). Image - Flip (Ctrl. + I). Selections - Invert (Ctrl. + Shift + I). Edit - Clear (Delete Key). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

12. Open up cm012w-2.pspimage. Edit - Copy (Ctrl. + C). On your working image: Edit - Paste as New Layer (Ctrl. + L). Layers - Merge - Merge Visible.
