For this tutorial you will need:


Corel Paint Shop Pro X2. Download a trial version here
Animation Shop 3.0. Download a trial version here
Supplies here


- Extract 28-cmv.bmp file to My Documents\My PSP Files\Texture folder.
- Extract all files to a folder of your choice.


This tutorial assumes you have a good working knowledge of PSP and its tools. It was written using Corel Paint Shop Pro X2, but may be done with previous versions.


Note: When you open the cm008_e000.pspimage file you will see a blank canvas. It's not empty: it contains all the selections needed, saved to alpha channels.


Remember to save often.

1. Open the cm008_e000.pspimage. Window - Duplicate (Shift + D). Close the original.

2. Fill "Raster 1" with color #827773. Effects - Texture Effect - Texture, with these settings:



Texture: 28-cmv - Light Color: #ffede0.

3. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #1 - Load. Selections - Promote Selection to Layer (Ctrl. + Shift + P). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow: Vertical and Horizontal 0 - Opacity 100 - Blur 20 - Color #6a5246.

4. Open cm008e_new.jpg. Edit - Copy (Ctrl + C). On the working image: Layers - New Raster Layer. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #2 - Load. Edit - Paste Into Selection (Ctrl. + Shift + L). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

5. Layers - New Raster Layer. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #3 - Load. Fill with color #827773. Effects - Texture Effect - Texture, same settings as before. Selections - Modify - Contract 3. Fill with color #786054. Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

6. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with color #eeeae6. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #4 - Load. Press the Delete Key. Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Layers - Merge - Merge Down.

7. Layers - New Raster Layer. Fill with color #eeeae6. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #5 - Load. Press the Delete Key. Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Effects - 3D Effects - Drop Shadow: Vertical 1 - Horizontal -1 - Opacity 100 - Blur 20 - Color #6a5246. Adjust - Sharpness - Unsharp Mask, with these settings: Radius: 2,00 - Strength: 100  - Clipping: 5 - Luminance only: Checked.

8. Open cm008e_frame.pspimage. Edit - Copy (Ctrl + C). On the working image: Layers - New Raster Layer. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #6 - Load. Edit - Paste Into Selection (Ctrl. + Shift + L). Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D).

9. In the Layers Palette, click on layer "Raster 4". Layers - Duplicate. Image - Flip (Ctrl. + I). Layers - Arrange - Bring to Top.

10. Open cm008e_frame-2.pspimage. Edit - Copy (Ctrl + C). On the working image: Edit - Paste As New Layer (Ctrl. + L). Layers - Merge - Merge Visible. Rename this layer: "1". Duplicate it twice. Name the duplicated layers: "2" and "3".

11. In the Layers Palette, click on layer "1". Layers - View - Current Only. Selections - Load/Save Selection - Load Selection From Alpha Channel - Selection #7 - Load. Adjust - Add/Remove Noise - Add Noise, with these settings: Random - Noise: 10 - Monochrome: Checked. Adjust - Sharpness - Sharpen. Do not Deselect.

12. In the Layers Palette, click on layer "2". Layers - View - Current Only. Adjust - Add/Remove Noise - Add Noise, same setting as before, only change Noise to 30. Adjust - Sharpness - Sharpen. Do not Deselect.

13. In the Layers Palette, click on layer "3". Layers - View - Current Only. Adjust - Add/Remove Noise - Add Noise, same setting as before, only change Noise to 20. Adjust - Sharpness - Sharpen. Selections - Select None (Ctrl. + D). Layers - View - All. Save your work as a .pspimage or .psp.

14. Open your Animation Shop. File - Open (Ctrl + O). Browse to the folder where you saved your work in the last step and open it.

15. Edit - Select All (Ctrl + A). Animation - Frame Properties (Alt + Enter). Display time (in 1/100th sec): 10.

File - Save As - the_name_of_your_choice.gif
